Women's Soccer Collects Shutout Win Over Midland

CRETE, Neb. – Doane women's soccer used a pair of first-half goals and a stingy defensive performance to blank Midland 2–0 on Wednesday night at Memorial Stadium/Papik Field. The Tigers improved to 5-5-2 overall and 3-1-1 in the GPAC, while Midland dropped to 1-9-1 (0-6-0 GPAC).

Doane dominated early possession, breaking through in the 37th minute when McKenna Rathbun netted a goal off a free kick to put the Tigers ahead 1–0. The home side doubled its advantage six minutes later as Hayle Brodine finished from close range off a feed from Savannah Franzoy, giving Doane a 2–0 cushion it would hold the rest of the way.

The Tigers outshot the Warriors 19–8 and placed 10 attempts on frame. Celeste Galvan paced the attack with six shots, including three on goal, while Anali Astorga added three shots and Franzoy tallied both an assist and three attempts.

Doane's defensive unit—anchored by Rathbun, Myridean Lehman, Elizabeth Winkels, and Megan Kennedy—limited Midland's looks and helped secure the team's fourth shutout of the season. Goalkeepers Virginia Johnson and Grayce Southern combined for the clean sheet; Johnson stopped five shots in 75 minutes before Southern closed the match with one save over the final 15 minutes.

Midland's Ava Brandt registered seven saves in 77 minutes, while Olivia Ellison led the Warriors with four shots.

The victory continued Doane's strong run in conference play, marking its second win in the past three GPAC contests to go with a tie. The Tigers return to action Saturday at home against Northwestern at 12:15 PM.
