Volleyball Goes Distance to Earn First Win of Season

Volleyball started the GoSarpy.com Bellevue Classic on Friday with a five-set victory over Goshen (Ind.) in the first meeting between the two programs. The win was the first for the Tigers (1-4) while the Maple Leafs dropped their second of the tournament (3-4). Game scores were 25-23, 23-25, 12-25, 25-16, and 15-11.

Kayden Schumacher led the Tigers with 15 kills in the match. Kate Roseland added eight kills while Jenna Sweeny and Mariah Sliva added seven and six kills, respectively, off the bench. Chloe Rose dished out 28 assists for the Tigers with Camdyn Carpenter adding 16 assists. Rose led the team with three ace serves.

Defensively, Grace Zeier led the team with 17 digs and Rose picked up 11 digs. Schumacher, Roseland, and Hilary Hupp were in on two blocks apiece as the Tigers had 6.0 total blocks.

Doane returns to action on Saturday morning, August 24, as they take on Avila (Mo.) at 11:30 AM in Bellevue.
