Kelsey Records Four Hits in Win Over Missouri Valley
Baseball started their second day of their four-game set with Missouri Valley on Monday afternoon in McPherson, Kansas. The Tigers trailed early but quickly turned the tide and rolled to a 16-1 victory over the Vikings.
Missouri Valley scored their run in the top of the first inning on an RBI-groundout. Doane tied the game in the bottom of the first with an RBI-groundout before taking the lead on a single from Brayden Jones. Johnny Vulcano followed with a two-run home run and Dane Kelsey had an RBI-double to give Doane a 5-1 lead.
The Tigers added two runs in the second inning to take a 7-1 lead. Carter Roth delivered an RBI-single and Jones hit a solo home run. In the fourth inning, Max Harris doubled to plate two runs with another run scoring on a fielder's choice. Kelsey delivered an RBI single to extend the lead to 11-1.
Doane added five runs in the fifth inning, starting with a two-run home run from Jordan Bond. Taiyo Takahashi picked up an infield single to plate a run with another run scoring on an error. Kelsey drove in the final run with an RBI-single.
The Tigers had 17 hits in the game, four from Kelsey and three apiece from Carter Roth and Jones. Kelsey drove in three runs while five players had two RBI apiece. Jones led the team with four runs scored and Vulcano scored three times.
Broc Songster threw 4.0 innings to pick up the win. He allowed one run on four hits and five walks while striking out five. Alec Harshaw threw 2.0 scoreless innings, allowing three hits and striking out three. Brycen Morrison threw 1.0 inning, allowing two hits.
Game two between the Tigers and Vikings begins 30 minutes from the conclusion of game one.
