
Baseball Drops Game Three to No. 22 Bulldogs
Baseball hosted No. 22 Concordia on Sunday to close out their four-game series. The Bulldogs took the first game of the day, 14-7.
Concordia jumped out to an 8-0 lead after two innings at the plate. Doane was able to get on the board in the bottom of the second with a solo home run by Aaron Vulcano. The Tigers added a run on an RBI-groundout by Sam Kwapnioski in the third to score Max Harris. Logan Amick singled in the fourth to drive in Vulcano and Jordan Bond to cut the lead in half, 8-4.
The Bulldogs plated two runs in the fifth with Doane answering with a run in the bottom of the fifth. Bond singled to drive in Vulcano. In the sixth, Misael Cantu had a two-run pinch hit double to drive in Kwapnioski and Amick to pull the Tigers within three runs, 10-7. Concordia picked up four runs in the seventh inning to close out the scoring.
Walks, timed up with home runs, were costly to the Tigers. Concordia drew 18 walks in the game with seven of those scoring. One walk also came with the bases loaded to bring in a run. The Bulldogs had three home runs in the game with the wind blowing out on the day. The first 10 runs for Concordia were scored with two outs.
Broc Songster started for Doane and went 1.2 innings, allowing eight runs on six hits and six walks with one strikeout. Cade Bridges threw 3.1 innings, allowing two runs on two hits and five walks while striking out three. Alec Harshaw threw 1.1 innings, allowing four runs on two hits and five walks with three strikeouts. Adam Wilmore threw 0.2 innings, allowing one hit and two walks.
Doane matched Concordia with 11 hits in the game. Amick was joined by Vulcano and Bond with two hits apiece. Vulcano scored three runs for the Tigers while Amick and Cantu had two RBI apiece.
The seven-inning contest took 2:49 to be completed.
