
Baseball Walks Off Dordt in 13 Inning Marathon
Baseball hosted Dordt on Thursday afternoon in Crete in the first of two games on the day. The Tigers took an early lead only to lose the lead and then battle back each time they faced a deficit. When the dust settled, Doane finished with a 6-5 victory in 13 innings.
In the first inning, Johnny Vulcano delivered an RBI-single to plate Logan Amick. Gerland Nix plated Aaron Vulcano in the second inning with a sacrifice bunt. Dordt came back with three runs in the fourth inning to take their first lead.
In the bottom of the seven inning, a dropped fly ball with two outs allowed Max Harris to score from first base and tie the game, forcing extra innings. Dordt regained the lead in the 11th inning with a two-out single. In the bottom of the frame, Johnny Vulcano collected an infield single to score Thaden Wewel and tie the game at 4-all.
A sacrifice fly in the 13th inning put Dordt back in front, 5-4. In the bottom of the inning, Brayden Jones walked with the bases loaded to score Amick. Aaron Vulcano followed with an RBI-single to score Sam Kwapnioski to earn the walkoff win.
Kaden Crawford started for Doane and went 7.0 innings, allowing three runs on seven hits and one walk while striking out nine. Raidyn Steele picked up the win as he threw 6.0 innings, allowing two runs (one earned) on three hits and two walks with two strikeouts.
Doane finished the game with 12 hits, three from Johnny Vulcano as he also drove in two runs. Amick added two hits and scored two runs.
