Men's Basketball Wins in Manhattan

Doane Men's Basketball went on the road for the first time since early November as they traveled to Manhattan, Kansas. The Tigers took on Manhattan Christian on Monday evening and picked up a 73-72 win over the Thunder.

The game opened with Doane scoring the first eight points followed by taking a 10-point lead, 15-5, through the opening five minutes. The Thunder answered with an 8-0 run to cut the deficit down to a basket. The Tigers would push their lead back to eight points behind a 9-3 run as Cooper Peterson hit three consecutive 3-point baskets. Doane led 38-34 at the break as Manhattan Christian scored twice in the last minute of play.

The Tigers managed to fend off several advances by the Thunder, continuing to maintain the lead through the majority of the second half. Manhattan Christian used a 5-0 run and took their first and only lead of the game at the 5:03 mark, 58-57. The lead was short-lived as Doane came back to go in front 26 seconds later following a Guy Moran 3-point basket.

The Thunder would tie the game with 1:23 to play and the score remained tied until Brady Timm hit a 3-point basket with 26 seconds left to give the Tigers the lead for good. Moran hit four free throws in the final 10 seconds to seal the win as Manhattan Christian would hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer to close the scoring.

Five players finished in double-figures for Doane, led by Peterson with 14 points. Cooper Sheldon added 13 points, followed by Timm and Moran with 12 points apiece, and Nick Saiz finished with 11 points.

Sheldon led the Tigers with nine rebounds and Alec Oberhauser added eight rebounds as the duo also tied for team-high honors in assists with three apiece. Ben Renshaw led the team with two steals.

Doane will travel to Mitchell, S.D., to take on Dakota Wesleyan on December 2, at 6:45 PM.
