
Men's Basketball Rallies for Road Victory
Men's Basketball travelled to Hillsboro, Kansas, on Tuesday afternoon to take on the Tabor Bluejays. The Tigers closed the game on a strong note and rallied to defeat the host Bluejays, 87-78. Doane sits at 5-3 entering the short holiday break while Tabor falls to 0-6.
Tabor scored the first five points of the game and would lead by as many as nine points in the first half. However, Doane would have their own run of points which would allow the Tigers to tie the game six times in the first 16 minutes of action. The first lead for Doane came with 3:38 to play in the first half as Casen Chaney knocked down a jumper after Glavine McDonald hit a 3-point basket to tie the game.
The Bluejays regained the lead with a 5-0 run only to have a McDonald/Chaney run give the Tigers the lead back. McDonald hit a 3-point shot and Chaney made two free throws. Doane led at the halftime break, 43-40.
The Tigers were able to push the lead to six points, 48-42, before the Bluejays responded with a 12-2 run to regain the lead. Tabor was able to push the lead to five points, 72-67, with six minutes to play in the game. Doane was able to chip into the lead and tied the game on two occasions before the Bluejays made their last field goal of the game with 2:31 for a 78-76 lead.
Doane ended the game with an 11-0 run. They were 5-of-7 at the free throw line in the final 32 seconds of play. Six players finished in double figures in the scoring column.
Chaney led the Tigers with 18 points and seven steals, one shy of the school record. Caleb Hrabik posted 14 points and McDonald added 13 points. Brayden Wampler-Foust finished with 12 points and Trey Connell collected 11 points, both off the bench. Jack Wilson finished with 11 points and a team-high seven rebounds. Wilson and Connell tied for team-high honors with three assists apiece.
The Tigers shot 48-percent from the floor (31-of-64), converting 35-percent of their 3-point attempts (9-of-26). Doane was 16-of-21 at the free throw line. Tabor shot 52-percent from the floor (31-of-60) and hit 60-percent from behind the arc (12-of-20). The Bluejays were 4-of-5 at the free throw line.
Kalep Crane led Tabor with 24 points and Batosse Gado finished with a double-double, 10 points and 11 rebounds.
Doane will travel to Sioux Falls, S.D., on Saturday, November 30, for an exhibition game for the Tigers. They will take on former GPAC foe, the University of Sioux Falls - a NCAA D2 squad, at 3 PM.
