Men's Basketball Downed in Arizona Opener

Men's Basketball opened play in Arizona on Wednesday evening against Nelson University (AZ). The Warriors posted a 96-79 win over the Tigers.

Doane led the majority of the opening eight minutes as Nelson tied the game on five occasions but the Tigers did not trail during the stretch. With 11:42 to play in the opening half, Nelson took their first lead on a 3-point basket. The Warriors would go on a 23-5 run over the 6:33 of game time to take a 37-21 lead. Doane would use a 6-0 run and a 5-0 run to chip into the deficit and went into the half trailing, 46-36.

Nelson hit five 3-point baskets in the opening 5:04 of the second half. They added one 2-point basket that also drew a foul for a three-point play. The largest lead in the second half for the Warriors was 21 points, 90-69.

Glavine McDonald posted 19 points for the Tigers while adding a team-high six rebounds. Jack Wilson finished with 14 points on 6-of-10 shooting. Caleb Hrabik posted 16 points on 6-of-8 shooting and Casen Chaney finished with 10 points. Brady Timm dished out seven assists and posted four steals to lead Doane.

For the game, the Tigers shot 26-of-58 (45-percent) from the floor and 7-of-22 (32-percent) from behind the arc. They made 20-of-28 (71-percent) from the free throw line. Nelson converted 33-of-58 (57-percent) from the floor and 12-of-26 (46-percent) from 3-point range. They were 18-of-20 (90-percent) from the charity stripe.

Harley Upton posted 26 points and four steals for the Warriors while Rob Jenkins added 24 points and four steals. Terrin Ross finished with a double-double, 10 points and 11 rebounds.

Doane will close out their Arizona swing when they take on Embry-Riddle (AZ) on Friday, December 20, at 3 PM CST (2 PM local time) in Prescott, Arizona.
