
Hastings Downs Men's Basketball in Hastings
Men's Basketball traveled to Hastings for the 236th meeting between the Tigers and Broncos on Wednesday evening. A run midway through the first half put the Broncos in front as they went on to win, 74-55.
Doane led for much of the opening 10 minutes of action, leading by as many as five points on two occasions. With the score tied at 22-all and 7:16 on the clock in the first half, Hastings used an 11-1 run to go in front for good. Doane battled back to close the half and trailed 37-32 at the break.
In the second half, Doane was able to pull within two points, 40-38, but Hastings would go on a 22-5 run over the next eight minutes to pull ahead by 19 points, 62-43. The Tigers were able to pull to within 13 points with 5:31 to go but each Doane basket the rest of the way would be answered by the Broncos.
Caleb Hrabik led Doane with 14 points with Brady Timm and Jack Wilson adding 12 points apiece. Timm added team-highs with seven rebounds, five assists, and three steals.
The Tigers shot 42-percent (22-of-52) for the game, 32-percent (7-of-22) behind the arc, and 50-percent (4-of-8) at the free throw line. Hastings shot 51-percent (26-of-51) for the game, 42-percent (11-of-26) from 3-point range, and 85-percent (11-of-13) at the charity stripe.
Maverick Binder led the Broncos with 23 points, hitting 7-of-11 from behind the arc. Ben Boudreau added 11 points and six assists.
Doane will return to action on Saturday, January 18, as they host Briar Cliff at 3:45 PM.
