Men's Basketball Falls in Overtime to No. 7 Dordt

Men's Basketball took on No. 7 Dordt on Saturday afternoon in Crete. The Tigers gave the Defenders all they could handle but came up short in the upset bid, falling 99-93 in overtime.

There were 11 lead changes in the first half of play with Doane taking a 40-39 lead into the halftime break as Caleb Hrabik picked up an offensive rebound and put back just before the horn blew to end the half.

The lead changed hands 10 times in the second half as Dordt would out-score the Tigers by a point and the game would go an extra five minutes. The Defenders tied the game at 81-all with 1:39 left in the half but neither team could find a point over the final 99 seconds.

Dordt scored the first nine points of the overtime period but Doane answered with five straight and trailed by four with 1:18 to play. The Tigers were able to cut the deficit to three points, 96-93, following a Brady Timm 3-point basket with 14 seconds left but the Defenders would add three free throws to seal the road win.

Doane shot 54-percent (30-of-56) for the game, 42-percent (11-of-26) from behind the arc, and 85-percent (22-of-26) at the free throw line. Dordt shot 55-percent (34-of-62) from the floor, 42-percent (10-of-24) from 3-point range, and 72-percent (21-of-29) at the free throw line. The Defenders had six more offensive rebounds than the Tigers which gave them a 17-8 advantage in second-chance points.

Timm led the Tigers with 23 points while Hrabik added 21 points. Casen Chaney pitched in with 20 points and Jack Wilson posted 18 points and a team-high seven rebounds. Chaney dished out five assists while Glavine McDonald led the Tigers with four steals. Wilson posted three blocked shots.

Dordt received 27 points from Lucas Lorenzen and 26 points from Bryce Coppock. Luke Rankin finished with 10 assists.

Doane will travel to Seward on February 19, to take on Concordia at 7:45 PM.
