Bio

Coach Ian McKeithen joined the Doane basketball staff in the summer of 2015 as an assistant and would be named Head Coach in 2016. He came to the Tigers after serving as Head Coach for Benedictine University - Springfield. McKeithen picked up his 100th coaching victory in a win over Concordia in February 2022.

During his tenure at Doane (following the 2023-24 season), the Tigers have had 31 Scholar-Athletes and eight NAIA Scholar Team honor. Doane has had 22 All-Conference players selected under Coach McKeithen. In 2021-22, the Tigers tied the team record for wins in GPAC play with 11.

At Benedictine-Springfield, McKeithen served as the only Head Coach in the program's history.  The school announced that the 2014-15 season would be the last for athletics at the institution after only three years for the basketball program.

During his tenure, he guided the Bulldogs from six wins in their first season to double-figure victories in each of the last two years.  In 2014-15, the team posted a school-record 10 conference wins. He posted a 35-58 record at BU-Springfield in their three seasons of sponsoring the sport.

Before serving as a head coach, McKeithen was an assistant at Iowa Wesleyan College and Dakota State University, his alma mater.  His coaching career started at Augustana University as a graduate assistant.

McKeithen served as a basketball operations intern for the Minnesota Timberwolves from 2007-08. His primary roles included helping with various player personnel, video and team projects, and front office staff assistance during the 2008 NBA Draft. 

McKeithen earned his Bachelor's degree from DSU in Business Management in 2007. He finished his Master's Degree in Teaching at Augustana College. He and his wife, Jina, have three children and reside in Crete.
