Short-Handed Goal Lifts Men's Soccer

Men's Soccer was back at home on Saturday evening as they hosted Dakota Wesleyan in a key GPAC battle with both teams contending for a postseason bid. Doane was able to overcome playing the final 31 minutes down a man and picked up a 2-1 victory over DWU.

Hugo Santos started the scoring in the 18' as he was able to take the ball away from a DWU defender and attacked with a shot for a goal. Doane led 1-0 at the half with a 6-2 shot advantage.

DWU came out with a quick goal in the 49' from Neil Ennis. In the 59', Doane was tagged with a red card following a foul on a breakaway attempt for DWU. Dakota Wesleyan came up empty with a high shot attempt off the free kick, leaving the score tied.

In the 63', Ameer Madden controlled the ball deep into DWU territory and shot the ball past three defenders to the far post, finding the net side for a go-ahead goal. DWU out-shot the Tigers, 9-2, in the second half but was unable to find an equalizer to tie the game.

Samuel Montanez picked up five saves in the game before leaving the game in the 83'. Curtis Oberg played a clean final seven minutes to cap off the team win.

Doane will host Concordia on Wednesday, October 16, at 7:15 PM in Crete for the next outing.
