
Men's Track and Field Host Ward Haylett Invite
Men's Track and Field opened the 2024 slate of the indoor season on Saturday by hosting the Ward Haylett Invite. Joining the Tigers for the meet were Iowa Western CC and Southeast CC.
On the track, Connor Bradley posted a time of 7.08 to win the 60m dash. Joaquin Gutierrez won a tight race in the 200m, posting a time of 23.18 to edge Bradley by 0.06 of a second. Dakota Miser won the 600m run with a time of 1:26.05.
Emmanuel Yego claimed the 800m title with a time of 2:01.43. In the 1000m run, Michael Grigsby won with a time of 2:36.63. Will Dawes won the mile run with a time of 4:41.15.
Zach Turner claimed the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.10, meeting the NAIA "A" standard for the second time this season. Doane ran six 4x400m relays with the "A" team of Zach Fox, Bradley, Gutierrez, and Turner running a time of 3:27.50.
In the field events, Dylan Starr took second in the high jump as he improved his NAIA "A" standard mark by clearing 2.07m (6-09.50). Carter Reckling was fourth as he met the "B" standard with a clearance of 2.04m (6-08.25). Drew Garrison won the pole vault with a mark of 3.95m (12-11.50).
Trevor Malone claimed the long jump title with a mark of 6.67m (21-10.75). He added the top Tiger mark in the triple jump, finishing third with a leap of 13.46m (44-02.00).
Colton Dillon took second in the shot put to pace Doane. He had a top throw of 14.93m (48-11.75). Andrew Schmitz joined the list of Tigers to qualify for the NAIA National Championships this year as he won the weight throw. He posted an "A" standard mark of 18.01m (59-01.25). Trey Dickey improved on his "A" standard mark by taking second with a throw of 17.58m (57-08.25).
Next up for the Tigers will be the Scott Nisely Memorial Classic on Saturday, January 13, in Crete.
