Schmitz, Turner Receive GPAC Weekly Honor
Andrew Schmitz and Zach Turner have been named the Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) Men's Indoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week, presented by Hauff Mid-America Sports, after their performances at the Ward Haylett Invite for Doane. This marks the first time for Schmitz to receive the honor and the seventh for Turner.
Schmitz won the weight throw with a mark of 18.01m (59-01.25) and moved into 7th in the NAIA this season. His mark hit the NAIA automatic qualifying standard, punching his ticket to the NAIA National Championships in March. He added a third place finish in the shot put with a throw of 14.69m (48-02.50).
Turner won the 60m hurdle on Saturday with a time of 8.10 seconds. He is currently tied for the fastest time in the NAIA this season with a mark of 8.02 from a meet in December. Turner also anchored the Tigers' 4x400m relay team that ran a time of 3:27.50, fourth-fastest in the GPAC this season.
The Tigers return to action on Saturday, January 13, when they host the Scott Nisely Memorial Track Classic. Field events are scheduled to start at 11 AM with running events scheduled to start at 12 PM (noon).
