Men's Track and Field Posts Strong Weekend to Open February

Men's Track and Field hosted the Fred Beile Classic on Friday and Saturday inside Fred Beile Arena. The Tigers posted four NAIA automatic qualifying marks and two provisional marks. Additionally, Doane had two individual performances outside their home meet as Zach Turner competed at the Husker Invitational and the Distance Medley Relay team competed at the Bearcat Invitational.

Turner placed fourth at the meet in Lincoln behind a school record time of 7.85, second fastest in the NAIA this season. The seven other runners in the finals of the 60m hurdles were all NCAA Division I runners.

The Distance Medley Relay (DMR) team of Emmanuel Yego, Joaquin Gutierrez, Eli Marez, and Thomas Oliver ran a time of 10:13.28 to hit the NAIA "B" standard. They moved into 13th on the NAIA charts this season and fourth on the all-time Doane list.

Back in Crete, JaDae Moore won the 60m dash with a time of 6.96. Chris Vincent took second in the 200m with a time of 22.95. Will Wenz finished second in the 400m with a time of 52.11.

Gutierrez, a day after running on the DMR, ran a winning time of 1:20.78 in the 600m. His time met the NAIA "A" standard and is seventh on the all-time Doane list. Michael Grigsby won the 800m with a time of 1:58.39.

In the 1000m, Jeremiah Ardnt placed fourth with a time of 2:51.23. Kale Maguire ran the mile for Doane and placed 21st with a time of 4:55.26. Jakob Tadlock placed ninth in the 5000m with a time of 16:27.61.

Sander Zutterman finished third in the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.71. The men's 4x400m relay team of Zach Fox, Jordan Kwiatkowski, Will Wenz, and Dakota Miser won with a time of 3:30.85.

In the field events, Carter Reckling placed third with a NAIA "A" standard mark of 2.05m (6-08.75). Mike Pulliam won the pole vault with a NAIA "B" standard clearance of 4.65m (15-03.00).

Cameron Leeling won the long jump with a leap of 6.70m (21-11.75). Trevor Malone took the triple jump title with a mark of 13.65m (44-09.50).

In the shot put, Andrew Schmitz met the NAIA "B" standard with a throw of 15.38m (50-05.50). Trey Dickey placed third in the weight throw with a mark of 17.93m (58-10.00), meeting the NAIA "A" standard. Schmitz was fifth, also hitting the "A" standard with a throw of 17.41m (57-01.50).

Devin Jepson won the heptathlon with 4,568 points. His track conversion time for running events pushed his total to 4,592 for the NAIA qualifying list, placing him 14th currently.

Doane will close out the regular season slate with one last meet in Seward on February 9, the Concordia Invite. The GPAC Championships will be the following week.
