
Men's Track and Field Strong in January Opener
Men's Track and Field hosted the Scott Nisely Memorial Classic on Saturday morning in Crete. The Tigers picked up four NAIA automatic qualifying marks while meeting the provisional standard five times.
In the 60m dash, JaDae Moore placed fourth to lead Doane with a time of 6.93. Connor Bradley won the 200m dash with a time of 22.80. Joaquin Gutierrez won the 400m dash in a time of 50.50.
Alex Fowler took second place in the 600m with a time of 1:25.91. Lucas Gautier was second in the 800m with a time of 2:04.21. In the 1000m, Michael Grigsby was victorious as he clocked a time of 2:33.61. Cody Smith finished second in the 3000m with a time of 9:45.01.
Zach Turner made his 2025 debut and posted a winning time of 7.89 in the 60m hurdles to meet the NAIA automatic qualifying standard and post the top mark in the NAIA. Andrew Brown ran a time of 8.10 to place fourth and meet the provisional standard. The 4x400m relay team of Bradley, Gutierrez, Caleb Mulder, and Turner won with a time of 3:25.23.
Trey Dickey won the weight throw by meeting the automatic qualifying for the second time this year. On Saturday, he hit a throw of 19.36m (63-06.25). Jaden Vollenweider and Andrew Schmitz hit provisional marks and moved into fourth and fifth place in the NAIA, respectively. Vollenweider hit a mark of 17.92m (58-09.50) while Schmitz had a mark of 17.91m (58-09.25).
Cale Bessler took second in the shot put to pace the Tigers. He had a throw of 15.50m (50-10.25). Drew Garrison won the pole vault with a mark of 4.30m (14-01.25). Andrew Harms won the long jump with a leap of 6.88m (22-07.00).
Brian Cech posted the fourth-best mark in the NAIA in the triple jump as he won with a mark of 14.64m (48-00.50). His mark met the provisional qualifying standard. In the high jump, Dylan Starr posted the second-best mark in the NAIA as he cleared 2.09m (6-10.25), meeting the automatic qualifying standard with his winning jump. Carter Reckling cleared 2.06m (6-09.00), meeting the automatic standard and moving into fifth in the NAIA. Peyton Herrick met the provisional standard and moved into 10th in the NAIA with a mark of 2.03m (6-08.00).
Next up for the Tigers will be the Polar Dog Classic in Seward on Friday, January 17.
