Porter Breaks 5K Record to Open Season

Men's Track and Field opened the 2025 spring season a week earlier than scheduled with four runners competing at the Spire Distance Carnival in Leavenworth, Kansas, on Friday evening.

In the 1500m, Michael Grigsby placed third with a time of 3:55.58. His time was a personal best and was also the fifth-fastest in program history.

Porter Bickley became just the second Tiger runner in the 5000m to run a sub-15 minute time. Bickley broke the school record set in 2010 as he posted a time of 14:56.53, nearly two seconds faster than the previous school mark. He placed 10th overall.

Jayden Wall placed 17th with a time of 15:08.52 and Nelson Ruto was 19th with a time of 15:11.90. Wall's time is fifth-fastest on the Tiger record books and Ruto's time is the sixth-fastest time.

Next up for the Doane team is the Central Nebraska Challenge in Kearney, Neb., on March 29.
