
Men's Wrestling Opens GPAC Action with Dominant Win
Men's Wrestling opened defense of their GPAC Championship on Friday evening with a home conference dual against Midland. The Tigers faced an undermanned Warrior squad, picking up three forfeit wins on their way to a 50-3 victory. The win was the fourth straight over Midland in which Doane has scored at least 50 team points.
Doane received forfeit wins at 125, 133, and 149 as Hunter Bennett, Matthew Terrance, and Tristen Brown picked up the wins. The first head-to-head matchup on the mat was at 141 where NAIA No. 16 Devin Avedissian took on Jackson Duncan. Avedissian picked up three takedowns and four near-fall points in the opening period to jump out to a 13-2 lead. In the second period, he added two more takedowns to post a 19-3 tech fall victory.
NAIA No. 1 Nate Lendt moved up a weight class from 149 to 157 to wrestle Tyren Schaefer. Lendt posted a 17-2 tech fall win as he recorded three takedowns and two sets of four near-fall points in the first period. Edward Ramirez (165) went into the second period but also recorded a tech fall win, 17-1, over Logan Millikan. Like Lendt, Ramirez picked up three takedowns and two sets of four near-fall points.
Doane picked up back-to-back pins at 174 and 184. Benjamin Dobler posted a pin in 22 seconds over McKayde Clevenger, setting the record for fastest pin in the 174 weight class in program history. Tyson Beauperthuy, ranked No. 5 in the NAIA and the reigning GPAC Wrestler of the Week, recorded a pin in 48 seconds at 184 to defeat Colton Horne.
Bradley Antesberger picked up his 95th win of his career on Friday night with a 17-1 tech fall win over Ryan Kocovsky. Antesberger, ranked No. 3 in the 197 weight class, recorded a takedown, two sets of four near-fall points along with an additional two near-fall points to lead 13-1 after the first period. He opened the second period with an escape and finished the match with a takedown.
The Warriors lone win came at 285 where the match came down to the final seconds. Zepf Sivels defeated Eli Criblez, 2-1, on a stalling point in the final 30 seconds of the match.
Doane heads to Arizona on November 16 to compete in the Embry-Riddle Mile High Open.
