Three Bracket Titles Secured by Men's Wrestling in Arizona

Men's Wrestling competed in Prescott, Arizona, at the Embry-Riddle Mile High Open on Saturday. The Tigers posted 62 victories on the day with a .673-win percentage and three bracket titles.

In the 125 bracket, Brian Peck picked up three wins. He defeated Ryan Garcia (Grand Canyon) by tech fall, 15-0, and James Maheras (Arizona Christian) by pin in 1:15. Peck added a medical forfeit win as well.

Matthew Terrence went 5-0 to win his first tournament as a Tiger. In the 133 bracket, he opened with three straight pins. He defeated Konner Larkin (Valiant) in 2:15, Roberto Lopez (Menlo) in 2:53, and Jason Ramirez (Arizona Christian) in 4:30. Terrence won his semifinal match by an 8-1 decision over Austin Kelly (Western Wyoming). He defeated Zach Marrero (Western Wyoming), 6-0, in the finals.

Tristen Brown won two matches at 141. He defeated Daniel Butler (Arizona Christian) by pin in 1:11 and Nate Johnson (Torotech WC) by tech fall, 19-3.

Nate Lendt took second place in the 149 bracket with a 3-1 day. He started with two wins by pin, defeating Conway Christensen (Western Wyoming) in 2:07 and Devin Shimabukuro (Menlo) in 35 seconds. In the semifinals, Lendt defeated Landon Thomas (Valiant) by major decision, 11-3. He lost his championship match by major decision to Tristan Stafford (Western Wyoming).

Gavin Smith added two wins in the 149 bracket for Doane. He defeated Mateo Valencia (Arizona Christian) by pin in 2:15 and Christopher Moore (Arizona Christian) in 3:35.

In the 157 bracket, Ben Miller picked up two wins. He defeated Joshua Padilla (Hope International) by decision, 11-4, and Jacob Waltersdorf (Grand Canyon) by pin in 1:18.

Edward Ramirez won four matches in the 165 bracket. He defeated William Prater (Embry-Riddle) by tech fall, 20-5, and James Donham (UNLV) by major decision, 19-5, in his first two matches. Following a three-point loss in the quarterfinals, he won by injury stoppage over Seth Borba (Menlo) and by decision over Mack Bray (Snow), 16-11.

Kody Hahn added one win in the 165 bracket. He defeated Mason Hernandez (Vanguard) by decision, 7-4.

Taking second place in the 174 bracket was Benjamin Dobler. He won three matches on the day, starting with a 17-2 tech fall win over Jacob Arellano (Hope International). He followed with a pin over Tauataina Tuikolongahau (Embry-Riddle) in 2:52. Dobler defeated Carson Howell (Menlo) in the semifinals, 9-4. He lost the championship match to NAIA No. 11 Danill Gorshkov (Embry-Riddle).

Chase Stieb added two wins at 174. He defeated Gary Smith (Arizona Christian) by pin in 4:20 and Gatlin Wilson (Western Wyoming) by major decision, 10-2.

Winning his second tournament of the year, Tyson Beauperthuy took the 184 bracket with a 4-0 record. He started with a 21-6 tech fall win over Makoa McCreadie (Arizona Christian). In the quarterfinals, he defeated NCWA No. 3 Cael Houston (Utah Tech) by pin in 1:25. Beauperthuy collected another tech fall win, 22-2, in the semifinals over Scott Beadles (Menlo). In the championship, he defeated NCWA No. 15 Maximus Zamora (Menlo) by pin in 2:19.

Kolton Kammeyer won three matches at 184. He defeated Jonathan Moreno (Menlo) by decision, 8-2, in his opening match. In the consolation bracket, he defeated McCreadie by tech fall, 17-2, and Aiden Pacheco (Hope International) by pin in 1:16.

Doane put on a dominant performance in the 197 bracket, sending three wrestlers to the semifinals and two to the finals. Kasten Grape and Bradley Antesberger tied for first as both went 3-0 and did not face off in the finals.

Grape defeated Davin Ito (Westcliff) by pin in 2:55 and Kai Argyros (unattached) by medical forfeit to advance to the semifinals. He would face teammate Jaren Jackson, winning by a 1-0 decision.

Antesberger opened with a 13-2 major decision over Andre Leota (Snow). In the quarterfinals, he pinned Sherman Sheldon (Embry-Riddle) in 3:38. Antesberger topped NCWA No. 15 Diego Morales (Menlo) in the semifinals by one point. Both wrestlers collected a point for an escape as the score was tied 1-1 at the end of regulation. However, Antesberger kept Morales on the mat long enough in the third period to earn a riding time point for a 2-1 win.

Jackson won two matches, starting with a 6-1 decision over Ryan Nardozzi (Ottawa). His second win was a 12-3 major decision over Alex Cortez (Arizona Christian).

In the heavyweight division (285), Eli Criblez collected three wins. He defeated Roman Torres (Vanguard) by a 4-1 decision. He pinned Mark Coopershyak (Wildcats WC) in 42 seconds to advance to the quarterfinals. He then defeated Austin Mcnaughtan (Western Wyoming) by a 2-0 decision before dropping back-to-back matches to NAIA Top 15 wrestlers.

Next up for the Tigers will be the first GPAC Duals of the season. The Tigers will travel to Seward to take on Northwestern and Briar Cliff on November 26.
