
Early Lead Lifts Men's Wrestling to Victory
Men's Wrestling closed out the first day of action at the NWCA NAIA National Duals on Friday evening against No. 14 Montana State-Northern. The Tigers won the first five matches on their way to a 26-15 victory. The win clinched a Top 8 finish heading into Saturday.
Brian Peck opened the match for Doane at 125 and won 10-5 over Kolten Powers. Matthew Terrence picked up an 11-3 major decision at 133 followed by a 15-0 tech fall win by Devin Avedissian at 141. Nate Lendt won by tech fall, 17-1, at 149 and Ben Miller picked up a pin over Justin Windauer at 157 to give the Tigers a 23-0 lead.
Doane picked up one win in the final five matches as Tyson Beauperthuy defeated NAIA No. 6 Rylin Burns by decision, 7-3. Beauperthuy trialed 3-1 after the first period before shutting down Burns the rest of the way. He out-scored Burns in the second period, 5-0, for a 6-3 lead and then earned a riding point for the final decision.
The Tigers will take on No. 5 Embry-Riddle (Ariz.) on Saturday morning at 9 AM. The winner will advance to the fifth place match at 1 PM.
