Bio
Dana Vote was named the Head Coach of the Doane Wrestling program in March 2019. He came to Doane after spending the previous two seasons at Midland University. In October 2021, he was promoted to Director of Wrestling after the announcement that Doane would add women's wrestling to the sports offerings.
In 2020, he helped guide Baterdene "Baagii" Boldmaa to a national championship victory at 141, giving Doane their second NAIA National Champion in program history. Boldmaa was also the GPAC Champion in his weight class while going undefeated against NAIA wrestlers during the 2019-20 season. The Tigers finished the season ranked in the NAIA Top 20.
The following season, in 2021, Vote guided Doane to the program's first-ever GPAC regular season title as the Tigers went a perfect 8-0 in conference duals. Six wrestlers qualified for nationals, a program record, with two earning NAIA All-American honors. Boldmaa won his second straight NAIA National Championship and was named the GPAC Wrestler of the Year after posting a perfect 25-0 record. Doane finished the season ranked No. 12.
Doane took another step forward in the Vote-era with a Top 5 finish at the NAIA National Championships in 2022 as well as a Top 3 finish at the NWCA National Duals. The Tigers won their second straight conference duals title, going 8-0, and won their first post-season crown. Boldmaa claimed his third straight national title with a 25-0 record and was named the NAIA National Wrestler of the Year, NAIA Outstanding Wrestling of the National Meet, and GPAC Wrestler of the Year. Additionally four wrestlers were NAIA All-Americans.
For his and the team's accomplishments during the 2021-22 season, Vote was named the NWCA-NAIA National Coach of the Year.
In 2023, Doane took a record 10 wrestlers to the NAIA Championships. Four athletes earned All-American honors with nine earning All-GPAC honors. The Tigers posted an 18-2 overall record in duals, a school record for dual wins. Boldmaa was named the GPAC Wrestler of the Year for the third straight year.
The Tigers returned to the top of the GPAC in 2024, winning the regular season and postseason titles. Vote was named GPAC Coach of the Year for the second time as the Tigers' head coach. Bradley Antesberger was named the GPAC Wrestler of the Year. Ten wrestlers qualified for nationals for the second straight year as the team placed 5th overall. Four wrestlers earned All-American honors with nine earning All-GPAC recognition.
When arriving at Doane, Vote was already a familiar face around the Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC), having coached previously at Concordia University in addition to his time at Midland. He was named the GPAC Coach of the Year on three occasions, in 2015, 2016, and 2018. Vote also earned NAIA North Region Coach of the Year honors on two occasions.
Along with his coaching accolades, he also helped several athletes and teams to their share of accomplishments. At Concordia, the Bulldogs won two GPAC regular season titles with back-to-back undefeated seasons in 2015 and 2016. They also won a pair of NAIA North Region team titles as well as the first GPAC post-season title in 2016. With Midland, the Warriors were the 2018 GPAC post-season champions.
In six years as a head coach at Concordia and Midland, Vote guided four wrestlers to GPAC Wrestler of the Year honors (2014-'15-'16-'19). With the Bulldogs and Warriors, he posted a 49-36 dual record, wrestlers have claimed 11 NAIA All-American honors and two national championships as 40 athletes qualified for the NAIA championships. Wrestlers have also earned 12 NAIA Scholar-Athlete honors for their performance in the classroom.
Prior to becoming a head coach, Vote wrestled on the varsity squad for three years at Buena Vista University (Iowa). He served a year as a student coach with four more years as an assistant at BVU.
