Molina, Beauchamp Lift Softball to First Win
Strong pitching and timely hitting lifted the Tiger Softball team to their first win of the season on Saturday, defeating Culver-Stockton, 5-2. Doane went 1-3 for the opening weekend.
Faith Molina threw her second straight complete game, firing 7.0 innings and limiting the Wildcats to three hits, all coming in one inning. She struck out six batters and opened the game with four perfect innings.
Doane took the lead in the second inning on an Isabella Beauchamp two-run triple. She came around to score following a bases loaded walk to Jadyn Hunt for a 3-0 lead after two innings.
In the fifth, the Wildcats opened the inning with two singles. A Tiger error loaded the bases and the next batter picked up a double to plate two runs. Molina was able to retire the next three batters with a pop out, strikeout, and ground out.
The Tigers got the two runs back in the bottom of the fifth on a two-out error that allowed Anna Prauner and Beauchamp to score.
Molina threw two perfect innings to close out the victory.
Doane finished with seven hits in the game as Beauchamp was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBI. Katelyn Hays, Payton Cooley, Lexi Alaniz-Diaz, Jeryn Allen, and Hunt all added a single to the hit column.
Next up for the Tigers will be a match-up with MidAmerica Nazarene as part of the NAIA KC Invite in Kansas City, Missouri, on February 16.
