Softball Splits with Tabor

Softball took on Tabor (Kan.) on Friday afternoon in Great Bend, Kansas. The Tigers dropped the opening game, 8-6, but bounced back to take game two, 9-2, for a split of the doubleheader. The Tigers are 4-4 on the season.

Game One
The Tigers jumped out early with a run in the first only to have the Bluejays tie the game in the second inning. Doane scored two runs to regain the lead in the fourth but Tabor responded with six runs in the bottom of the inning for a 7-3 lead. Doane plated a run in the fifth, Tabor scored one in the sixth, and the Tigers picked up two in the seventh to cap the scoring.

Anna Prauner led the Tigers with three hits and added a run scored and two RBI. Payton Cooley and Grace Dowding posted two hits and scored two runs apiece. Katelyn Hays had one hit and two RBI.

Abbi Arroyo started for Doane and threw two innings, allowing one run. Alexis Hubbard threw 1.2 innings, allowing six runs in taking the loss. Sarah Shevenell threw 2.1 innings, allowing one run.

Game Two
Like the opener, Doane struck first with a run in the top of the first. The Tigers added two runs in the third for a 3-0 lead but Tabor struck with a run in the bottom of the frame. Doane added a run in the sixth and blew open the game with five runs in the seventh. The Bluejays scored a run in the bottom of the inning for the 9-2 final.

Cooley was joined by Jeryn Allen with three hits apiece in the game. Allen scored three runs as well. Prauner and Shevenell had two hits and three RBI apiece in the game. Faith Molina posted a hit, two runs scored, and a RBI.

Molina also went the distance in the pitcher's circle, allowing two runs in 7.0 innings of work.

Next up for the Tigers is a doubleheader in North Newton, Kansas, against Bethel on Saturday, February 24.
