Softball traveled to Jamestown, N.D., on Friday to take on the Jimmies in a conference doubleheader. The Tigers dropped the opener, 2-1, but bounced back with a 6-3 win in the night cap to earn the split.
The two teams were scoreless through the opening five innings of play of game one. In the sixth inning, Anna Prauner put the Tigers on the board with a sacrifice fly to bring in Jeryn Allen from third base.
Jamestown bounced back with two runs in the bottom of the sixth on a one-out double to take a 2-1 lead. With two outs in the seventh inning, the Tigers took advantage of an error and a wild pitch to put the tying run at third base but were unable to cash in.
Doane had four hits in the game. Allen and Prauner each had a double while Grace Dowding and Sarah Shevenell had singles.
Abbi Arroyo started and went 5.1 innings, allowing two runs (one earned) on five hits and a walk while striking out one. Faith Molina threw the final 0.2 innings, striking out one.
In game two, the Tigers jumped out with a run in the second inning. Jadyn Hunt doubled to plate Marisa Marquez for a 1-0 lead. Jamestown tied the game in the third inning with an unearned run.
Doane regained the lead in the fourth inning on a Marquez double to drive in Kennedy Walter. Hunt followed with her second RBI-double of the game to plate Marquez. With two outs, Dowding singled to drive in Hunt and Molina for a 5-1 lead.
The Tigers added a run in the fifth inning on an RBI-double by Prauner to plate Katelyn Hays. Jamestown picked up two runs in the bottom of the fifth to close out the scoring. The Jimmies had the tying run at the plate in both the sixth and seventh innings.
Molina started and went 6.0 innings, allowing three runs (two earned) on six hits and five walks while striking out six. Shevenell closed out the game to pick up the save, throwing 1.0 innings and striking out one as she entered with two runners on base and no outs.
Prauner led the Tigers with three hits in the game as the team finished with nine. Dowding and Hunt added two hits and two RBIs apiece.
Doane will start their trip home with a stop in Mitchell, S.D., on Saturday, April 20.
