
Softball Splits with Lancers to Close Regular Season
Softball played their final home games of the season on Saturday as they hosted Mount Marty during the morning sunrise. The two teams beat the storms that made their way through in the early afternoon with the early start time and split the doubleheader. The Lancers took game one, 5-3, with the Tigers winning in game two, 8-6.
In game one, Mount Marty scored the first five runs of the game. The Lancers plated two runs in the first inning, one in the third, one in the sixth, and one in the seventh. Doane came back with three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning. The first Tiger run scored on a groundout by Jeryn Allen to plate Jaiden Papik. Katelyn Hays followed with her seventh home run of the season, a two-run shot.
Doane had seven hits in the game, two apiece from Grace Dowding and Allen. The Tigers had three extra base hits in the game. In addition to the home run by Hays, Sarah Shevenell and Jadyn Hunt had a double apiece.
Abbi Arroyo started for the Tigers and threw 1.0 inning. She allowed two runs on three hits and a walk while striking out one. Faith Molina threw 6.0 innings and allowing three runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out four.
In the second game, the Lancers scored the first two runs in the first inning. Doane answered back with four runs in the bottom of the frame. Marisa Marquez drove in the first run with an RBI-single. Molina delivered an RBI-single to tie the game and Isabella Beauchamp doubled to plate two runs for a 4-2 lead.
Mount Marty scored three runs in the third inning to take a 5-4 lead over the Tigers. Molina tied the game in the bottom of the third with an RBI-single. The Lancers took a 6-5 lead with a run in the fourth.
In the fifth inning, Dowding was at the plate with the bases loaded and two outs. She was able to use her speed to get down the first base line for an infield single and the ball was thrown away allowing three runs in total to score to put the Tigers in front, 8-6.
Molina threw the final 4.0 innings of the game to pick up the win. She allowed one unearned run on one hit and one walk with two strikeouts. Shevenell started and threw 2.0 innings, allowing five runs (three earned) on four hits and five walks while striking out one. Hannah Klein threw 1.0 inning, allowing one hit and striking out one.
Offensively, the Tigers had nine hits including two extra base hits. Molina was 3-for-4 with two runs scored and two driven in. Dowding was 2-for-4 with a run and a RBI while Beauchamp was 2-for-3 with two RBI.
Next up for Doane will be the GPAC Tournament. Pairings will be released following the conclusion of the regular season.
