Softball Rallies, Tops Dakota State

For the second time on opening day, the Tigers' softball team rallied from a multi-run deficit to post a victory. Doane rallied to defeat Dakota State on Friday evening, 9-5, to pick up their second win of the season.

Dakota State plated three runs in the top of the first with Doane answering back with one in the bottom of the frame. Jasmine Villegas singled to plate Milannie Gonzalez for Doane's first run. DSU added a two-run home run in the third inning to take a 5-1 lead.

The Tiger rally started in the third inning as Gonzalez drove in Jaiden Papik. In the fourth inning, Addison Parsons had a pinch hit RBI by plating Jeryn Allen with a ground out. Papik added an infield single to drive in Lexi Adams to cut the deficit to one run, 5-4.

Doane took the lead in the fifth inning on a two-run single by Kayla Meyer to plate Faith Molina and Anna Prauner. Doane added three runs in the sixth inning. An error allowed Hannah Pack to score and Villegas singled to plate Grace Dowding. The final run scored on an error as Katelyn Hays scored.

Hannah Kline started for Doane and went 1.0 inning, allowing three runs on four hits with one strikeout. Bri True threw the final 6.0 innings and allowed two runs on three hits and two walks while striking out 10 batters.

The Tigers had 12 hits in the game, led by Villegas with three. Gonzalez and Meyer had two hits apiece. Nine different players scored a run while Villegas and Meyer led the team with two RBI each.

Next up for the Tigers will be a match-up with York on Saturday at 12 PM in Sioux Center, Iowa.
