Softball Caps Weekend with Fourth Victory

Softball closed out action on Saturday afternoon in Sioux Center, Iowa, against Culver-Stockton. The Tigers replicated their earlier game in the day by scoring first and never trailing in a 4-2 win. The victory moved the team's overall record to 4-0.

Doane's first run of the game came in the 2nd inning as Kayla Meyer drew a one-out walk. Lexi Adams entered as a pinch runner and moved to second base on a passed ball. A single by Marisa Marquez put runners on the corners for Faith Molina. She then singled to plate Adams for a 1-0 lead.

In the fourth inning, Molina reached on a two-out error and Bri True took advantage of the situation for the Tigers. She smacked a two-run home run to give Doane a 3-0 lead. The Wildcats responded with two runs on a double in the 5th inning to cut the Tiger lead to one run. Doane was able to get a run back in the 6th inning as True singled to drive in Molina.

Faith McDonald started for the Tigers and threw 4.0 innings, allowing two hits and one walk as she earned her first Doane win. True threw the final 3.0 innings to pick up the save. She allowed two runs on two hits and two walks while striking out one.

Doane had seven hits in the game, two apiece from Molina and True. Molina scored twice and had one RBI while True drove in three runs and scored one.

Next up for the Tigers will be a trip to Kansas City, Kansas, to compete in the KC Spring Invite. Doane will face Sterling in their opening game on February 14 at 11 AM.
