
Softball Blanks Bethel, 12-0
Softball closed out their day in Wichita, Kansas, on Monday with a 12-0 victory over Bethel (Kan.). The win moved the Tigers to 5-2 on the season.
Doane scored right out of the gates in the first inning behind a two-out rally. Marisa Marquez drew a two-out walk and Bri True followed with a two-run home run. Addison Parsons was hit by a pitch in the next at-bat and Jeryn Allen doubled to put two runners on base. A double from Ciara Hudson plated two more runs as the Tigers lead 4-0 after the top of the first.
In the second inning, Doane added four more runs. Milannie Gonzalez reached on an error to plate Jaiden Papik. She scored on a single by Jasmine Villegas. Parsons added a two-run double to drive in Villegas and Marquez for an 8-0 lead.
The Tigers plated three runs in the third inning. Makinley Thomas reached on an error that allowed two runs to score. Thomas then scored from first base on a double by True. In the fifth inning, Thomas singled to drive in Faith McDonald for the 12th run of the game.
Abbi Arroyo started for the Tigers in the circle and went 3.0 scoreless innings, limiting the Threshers to three hits and a walk while striking out two batters. True threw the final 2.0 innings, allowing one walk and striking out three.
Doane had 11 hits in the game. Villegas and True had two hits apiece. True led the team with three RBI while Parsons and Hudson had two RBI apiece. Marquez and Villegas scored two runs apiece to lead the team.
Next up for the Tigers will be a doubleheader in Sterling, Kansas, against Sterling College.
