
Softball Wins Opener in Branson
Softball opened the Branson Grand Slam Classic on Thursday with a doubleheader against Saint Mary (Kan.). The Tigers served as the home team in the opener and posted a 3-1 victory.
Doane scored their three runs in the first two innings of play. In the first inning, Anna Prauner scored on a sacrifice fly by Marisa Marquez. The Tigers scored two in the second inning. Grace Dowding delivered an RBI-single to plate Jeryn Allen. She then stole second base and advanced to third on a throwing error. Prauner followed with an RBI-single to drive in Dowding for a 3-0 lead. Saint Mary scored their lone run in the top of the third inning on a two-out double.
Faith Molina threw a complete game victory for Doane. In 7.0 innings of work, she allowed one run on five hits and two walks while striking out five.
The Tigers had seven hits in the game, two off the bat of Prauner. All the team's hits were singles, however, they did have three stolen bases in the game which set up two of the runs scored.
Game two followed approximately 30 minutes after the first game.
