Prauner Delivers Walk-off Win for Softball

Softball closed out their home and conference opener on Friday afternoon against Briar Cliff with a low-scoring, walk-off victory. The Tigers topped the Tigers with a two-out hit in the bottom of the seventh to win, 2-1.

Doane scored the first run of the game in the third inning as Faith Molina delivered a two-out single to drive in Grace Dowding. The Tigers maintained the lead until the sixth inning when the Chargers tied the game with an RBI-double.

In the top of the seventh inning, the Chargers threatened to take the lead as they put two runners on base with one out. However, they stranded both runners with two groundouts.

Doane opened the bottom of the seventh with a groundout. Kayla Meyer pinch hit and singled to put the potential winning run on base. Lexi Adams entered as a pinch runner and moved to second base following a walk. The Chargers were able to get a popup for the second out of the inning before Anna Prauner came to the plate and delivered a two-out, RBI-single to drive in Adams for the winning run.

Faith McDonald went the distance for the Tigers, throwing 7.0 innings and allowing one run on seven hits and two walks. She needed just 82 pitches for the complete game victory.

Doane was held to six hits in the game, coming from six different players. Prauner reached base twice, getting hit by a pitch and delivering the game-winning single.

The Tigers will host No. 4 Northwestern on Tuesday, March 14, at 2 PM for their next outing.
