Mistakes Costly for Softball in Game Two

Softball closed out their home slate with the final game of their doubleheader against Concordia on Friday afternoon and early evening. Errors led to five unearned runs in the game and Doane was on the unfortunate side of four unearned runs allowed in a 5-4 loss to the Bulldogs.

Concordia picked up a two-out hit in the first inning to plate their first run for a 1-0 lead. Doane answered back with a run in the bottom of the inning. Grace Dowding reached second base on an error and stole third to set up the Tiger run. Jeryn Allen delivered a sacrifice fly to tie the game.

Doane committed three errors in the second inning, leading to three Concordia runs with two outs in the inning. The Tigers managed to tie the game in the third inning with three runs crossing the plate. The inning opened with back-to-back doubles as Jasmine Villegas would reach second base to open the inning and score on Dowding's double. With one out, Marisa Marquez doubled to plate Dowding and put runners at second and third base. A sacrifice fly by Bri True drove in Anna Prauner as she scored before Marquez was thrown out at third base as part of a double play.

The Bulldogs regained the lead in the fifth inning on a throwing error by the Tigers on a failed pickoff at third base. Doane was able to put the tying run on base in the bottom of the fifth and seventh innings but was unable to plate the run to extend the game.

Faith McDonald started for the Tigers and went 2.0 innings, allowing four runs (one earned) on four hits and three strikeouts. Faith Molina went 5.0 innings, allowing one unearned run on four hits and two walks with three strikeouts.

Doane had six hits in the game, two from Dowding. The Tigers posted three extra base hits in the game, all doubles.

Next up for the Tigers is a trip to Bellevue for a single game on Wednesday, April 16, at 4 PM.
