
Women's Basketball Opens Season with Home Win
Women's Basketball opened the season on Wednesday evening as they played host to Peru State. The Bobcats came in with a 2-0 record and scored the first points of the game but a 20-0 response by Doane put the Tigers on their way to a 90-69 victory.
Peru State made a pair of free throws 11 seconds into the game only to have Doane answer back with a 3-point basket from Mak Hatcliff. Five different players scored in the 20-0 Tiger run before the Bobcats ended their drought with 2:31 to play in the opening quarter. Doane led 24-9 at the period break.
Doane used an early 8-0 run in the second quarter and closed with a 22-3 run, which included 19 straight points, to take a 55-22 lead at halftime. In the third quarter, Doane out-scored PSC, 22-15, to lead by 40 points after 30 minutes of action. Peru State had their best quarter in the final 10 minutes, out-scoring Doane, 32-13.
Maddie Portwine paced the Tigers with 21 points on 7-of-11 shooting while pulling in seven rebounds. Mak Hatcliff finished with 18 points and seven rebounds. Libby Trausch posted 13 points and eight rebounds off the bench while Kaylee Klover recorded a double-double off the bench with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Macy Holtz added 10 points and six assists. Rylie Rice notched nine assists, five rebounds, and three steals.
Doane shot 44-percent for the game (35-of-79) while hitting 41-percent from behind the arc (7-of-17). Peru State shot 40-percent for the game (23-of-58) and 30-percent behind the arc (7-of-23).
Kylie Diaz posted 16 points, 10 rebounds, and six blocked shots to lead Peru State. MaKinley Tobey added 15 points.
Next up for the Tigers is a home contest with Sterling (Kan.) on Tuesday, November 12, at 6 PM.
