Bio

Coach Gene Steinmeyer returned to Doane in January 2020 as a volunteer assistant and moved into a full-time assistant roll prior to the 2020-21 academic year.

Steinmeyer was the head coach at Doane during the Tigers' three consecutive NAIA Semifinal finishes in 1996-97-98 before taking over at Northwest Missouri State where he took a team to the Elite 8.

During his tenure as the Tigers' Head Coach (1985-99), Steinmeyer coached 36 All-NIAC players, with three earning NIAC Player of the Year honors, and nine NAIA All-Americans, including two First Team All-Americans. Steinmeyer was named the NIAC Coach of the Year following the 1994-95 and 1997-98 seasons. The Tigers had six NAIA Scholar-Athletes during his time as head coach.

Steinmeyer is a member of the Doane Hall of Fame.
