
Women's Tennis Tops Spires for First Win
Women's Tennis played host to Saint Mary (Kan.) on Tuesday morning, earning a 5-2 victory over the Spires for their first win of the season. Doane is now 1-2 on the year while Saint Mary dropped to 0-1.
The Spires took the first point of the match as they won two of the three doubles matches. Doane won at 1-doubles with Maria Purizaca and Liz Calderon picking up a 7-5 victory. The decisive doubles match came down to 3-doubles where Saint Mary won in a tie-break, 7-6 (7-4).
Doane won five of the six singles matches on the day. Purizaca won 6-3, 6-1, at 1-singles and picked up her 25th career win, moving into a tie for 7th on the wins chart. Calderon won 6-2, 6-0, at 2-singles. Grace Schroller won in a tie-break at 4-singles, picking up the win that clinched the match for the Tigers. She won 6-2, 3-6, 1-0 (10-6). Cierra Schwarzkopf picked up a 6-2, 6-1, win at 5-singles. Kat Johnson won 6-2, 6-3, at 6-singles.
The Tigers will travel to Hastings on Friday, October 4, to compete in the Hastings Invite at noon.
