
Women's Tennis Upset Bid Falls Short
Women's Tennis took on Morningside on Sunday afternoon in Crete. The Mustangs entered the match receiving votes in the NAIA national poll and received a valiant effort out of the Tigers. Morningside hung on to win the match, 4-3.
Morningside cruised early on, taking the three doubles matches to take a 1-0 lead entering singles play.
Doane took the lead as Mariana Espinosa and Liz Calderon picked up wins at No. 2 and 3, respectively. Espinosa won her match, 6-4, 6-4, while Calderon won 6-3, 6-2. The Mustangs tied the match with a win at No. 1, where Morningside's Line Jensen, ranked No. 16 in the NAIA, took on No. 32 Maria Purizaca. Purizaca took the opening match, 7-5, before Jensen won the next 7-5, 6-3.
The Mustangs won at No. 4 and No. 5 to clinch the match. Kat Johnson won at No. 6 for Doane, 6-3, 6-2.
The Tigers will have a quick turnaround for their next match, traveling to Omaha on Monday to take on Saint Mary at 3 PM.
