Sutton Named NAIA Women's Field Athlete of the Week
Madison Sutton has been named the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Women's Field Athlete of the Week in track and field for her performance on January 11 at the Scott Nisely Memorial Classic. She is the first Tigers since 2022 to receive the honor and the first thrower since 2020.
Earlier in the day on Wednesday, Sutton was named the Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) Women's Field Athlete of the Week. This marks the first time in her career to receive either honor.
Sutton posted the best throw on the week in the NAIA in the weight throw and the shot put. She won the weight throw with a mark of 17.97m (58-11.50), topping 23 other competitors. In the shot put, she defeated 19 other competitors with a winning throw of 14.41m (47-03.50). Her mark in the shot put moves her into ninth in program history. Sutton sits in third on the NAIA leaderboard in both events, achieving NAIA national qualifying marks in both events.
Doane will compete at the Polar Dog Classic on Friday, January 17, in Seward for their next competition.
