Volleyball Drops GPAC Match at Hastings
(Oct 3, 2023 - due to an ineligible player, Hastings forfeited the victory)
Volleyball traveled to Hastings on Wednesday evening to take on the Broncos in GPAC play. After a close battle through most of the first set, the Broncos were able to put together a run and finish with a three set win over the Tigers. Games scores were 25-17, 25-11, and 25-17.
The teams were knotted up at 16-all in the first set before a 9-1 run led Hastings to the opening set win. The momentum carried over into the second set as the Broncos were able to take a 9-2 lead early on. Doane started the third set hot as Maddie Busch recorded three consecutive ace serves as the Tigers took a 5-1 lead. Hastings answered with a 5-1 run to tie the match only to see Doane go back in front by three. The Broncos used a 5-0 run to take the lead and never looked back as they closed out the match.
For the match, Gracie Burwell collected seven of the team's 21 kills. Camdyn Carpenter finished with 11 assists and Chloe Rose added seven. The Tigers had five ace serves in the match, three from Busch and two from Delaney Burge.
Sophia McKinney collected nine digs with Carpenter finishing with seven. The Tigers finished with 5.0 team blocks, three assist blocks from Olivia Navarro and Taylor Sluka.
Doane will return home on Saturday, September 23, to take on Morningside at 3 PM following the junior varsity contest.
