Bio
Head Coach Josh Oltmans took over the helm of the program in the summer of 2016. He previously served as an assistant from 2007-15.
He returned to Doane after a year as the Interim Head Coach at Peru State College. The Bobcats went 21-33 during the 2015-16 season.
Oltmans has guided the Tigers to four consecutive conference titles since returning to Doane, winning regular season crowns in 2021, 2022, 2023, and 2024. Doane won the 2023 GPAC Tournament with a 1-0 victory over Concordia. The Tigers qualified for the NAIA Opening Round tournament in 2021 (O'Fallon, Mo.), 2022 (Lewiston, Idaho), and 2023 (Bellevue, Neb.). In 2024, Doane was selected to host an NAIA Opening Round bracket with the games played at Sherman Field in Lincoln.
Named the GPAC Coach of the Year in 2021, 2022, and 2023, his teams have produced numerous All-GPAC performers and GPAC Gold Glove winners since the start of his head coaching tenure. In 2022, Joe Osborn was named the GPAC Player of the Year with Thaniel Trumper receiving GPAC Pitcher of the Year honors. The Tigers posted 24 wins during the 2022 season, a GPAC record for conference wins in a year. In 2023, Aaron Forrest was named the GPAC Pitcher of the Year as Doane won a school-record 43 games during the season. Forrest repeated as GPAC Pitcher of the Year in 2024.
Doane has notched four NAIA All-American honors, 58 NAIA Scholar-Athlete honors, 75 All-GPAC selections, and 13 GPAC Gold Glove awards.
During his time at Doane as an assistant, Oltmans has filled a couple of roles by handling the outfield and the pitching staff at different times. The Tigers won three regular season championships, one post-season conference title, and appeared in three NAIA Opening Round tournaments. The 2014 team is the only squad to run the table in the GPAC, going 20-0.
A graduate of Dakota Wesleyan University (S.D.), Oltmans was an NAIA Scholar-Athlete his senior year and received a Bachelor of Arts degree in business administration and a minor in communications.
Before playing at Dakota Wesleyan, Oltmans played for Coach Jeremy Jorgensen at McCook Community College. He served as a co-captain at MCC and was an Academic All-American. During his college career Oltmans was a pitcher and an outfielder. He also played in the Boise Collegiate Summer League in Idaho.
