Football Drops Road Contest to No. 8 Dordt

Football traveled to Sioux Center, Iowa, on Saturday to take on No. 8 Dordt to complete a three-game run against NAIA Top 15 teams. The Tigers dropped the game to the Defenders, 38-3.

Doane was able to hold the Defenders to seven points in the opening quarter but Dordt broke through with 17 points in the second quarter to take a 24-0 lead at the half. They added two touchdowns in the third quarter with Doane scoring the only points of the fourth quarter.

The Tigers' scoring drive was set up by Kelen Meyer converting a fourth down fake punt. He would then cap the drive by making a 27-yard field goal. Meyer had 10 punts in the game, placing six punts inside the Dordt 20-yard line. Five of his punts were over 50 yards and two were over 60 yards.

Zach Fredenburg made his first start for the Tigers at quarterback and was 3-for-12 for 28 yards. Derek Silva started the second half and was 7-for-14 for 47 yards. John DeRiso had two receptions for 20 yards while Ian Riles had two for 19 yards and Karsen Reimers had two for eight yards. Rian Green posted 17 yards on 11 carries.

Defensively, Reece Zutavern finished with nine tackles, including six solo. Jarett Boggs posted eight tackles, six solo, with one sack. Cade Wiseman finished with six solo tackles and one pass breakup.

Doane will head to South Dakota next weekend as they take on Dakota Wesleyan in Mitchell, S.D., with a 1 PM kickoff.
