Men's Basketball Downed in GPAC Opener to DWU

Men's Basketball opened conference play on Saturday as they hosted Dakota Wesleyan in Crete. Both teams entered the day with a 3-1 record. DWU used a 17-2 run to erase an early Doane lead as the visiting Tigers defeated their hosts, 82-41.

Doane jumped out to a 7-2 lead through three minutes and led 9-8 with 15 minutes to play. However, the offense struggled to find a bucket as they were held scoreless in the final eight minutes of the opening half and DWU took a 45-14 lead into the break. DWU scored 24 straight points to close the half, hitting six 3-point baskets in the run.

In the second half, DWU used a 24-8 run in the middle stages of the half to build their largest lead, 49-points, 80-31. Doane closed the game on a 10-2 run as they made four of their final five shot attempts.

For the game, Doane was limited to 30-percent shooting (16-of-54), hitting 17-percent from behind the arc (4-of-23). The Tigers were 5-of-7 at the free throw line, 71-percent. DWU shot 50-percent for the game (31-of-62), making 9-of-21 from behind the arc for 43-percent. They were 11-of-12 at the free throw line (92-percent).

Jack Wilson and Aadam Coulibaly led Doane with seven points apiece. Glavine McDonald had a team-high five rebounds. Casen Chaney led the team with three assists and matched Wilson for team-high honors with two steals apiece.

Dakota Wesleyan received 16 points from Anthony Riggans to lead all scorers. Four players finished in double figures for DWU.

Doane will travel to Manhattan, Kansas, on Tuesday, November 19, as they take on Manhattan Christian for the second time this season. The Tigers won the first meeting on October 31, 83-56. The last time Doane played in Manhattan was in 2022 and the two all-time meetings at MCC have been decided by a total of five points.
