
Women's Basketball Wins in Hastings for First Time Since 2016
Women's Basketball went on the road on Wednesday evening and posted a 77-71 win over Hastings. The victory was the first for the Tigers in Hastings since 2016.
The Broncos held an early two point lead, 6-4, with 6:55 to play in the opening quarter. Mak Hatcliff buried a 3-point basket to put the Tigers in front, a lead they would not relinquish. The basket started a 15-0 run by Doane to go in front, 19-6. The Tigers led 25-13 after 10 minutes of play as Libby Trausch hit a floater in the lane as time expired in the quarter.
Doane extended their lead to 15 points, 45-30, at halftime as Tatum Rusher and Hatcliff scored seven points apiece in the second quarter. The Tigers scored the first seven points of the third quarter to build their largest lead, 22 points, at 52-30. The Broncos would start to catch fire behind the 3-point arc, hitting five in the third quarter as they pulled within 10 points, 65-55, entering the final quarter.
Hastings was able to cut the Doane lead to five points in the closing seconds as they went 4-of-5 at the free throw line and added a 3-point basket. The Tigers were able to fight off the Bronco rally despite struggling from the free throw line in the final quarter. Doane was 8-of-16 in the quarter but hit 22-of-32 for the game.
Hatcliff led the Tigers with game-highs of 20 points and four steals while adding eight rebounds. Rylie Rice posted 18 points, pulled in nine rebounds, and added two steals. Trausch finished with 17 points. Maddie Portwine had a game-high six assists while Kaylee Klover had a game-high 10 rebounds.
Doane will be back at home on Saturday, December 2, as they play host No. 2 Dordt at 2 PM.
A note for fans, multiple events are going on at the Doane campus on Saturday and parking may be sparse in the Haddix parking lot. Additional park in The Den parking lot south of the Haddix lot should be available as well.
