
Three Compete at U23 National Team Trials
Greco-Roman Wrestling started off the summer slate of action at the U23 National Team Trials in Geneva, Ohio. Doane was represented by three wrestlers.
In the 87 kg division, Tyson Beauperthuy posted a third place finish as he went 4-1 in the tournament. As the 5-seed, he opened action with an 8-0 tech fall win over George Rhodes (DWC) and followed with a 10-2 tech fall win over 4-seed Mason Parsons (SOTW).
In the semifinals, he was edged out by criteria. He dropped a 1-1 decision to 8-seed Keenan Wyatt (KNRT). Beauperthuy bounced back with an 8-0 tech fall win over Ryan Boucher (MWC) before winning a rematch against Parsons, 9-0, for third place.
At 60 kg, Ray Ray Harris placed fifth with a 3-2 record on the day. He entered as the 4-seed and opened with a 6-4 win over Markel Baker (NIR) before defeating D'Andre Brown (TDWC) by tech fall, 8-0.
In the semifinals, 1-seed Rhett Peak (NYAC) won by tech fall, 9-0. Harris dropped his first consolation match in a rematch with Baker, falling 4-1. In the fifth place match, he defeated 2-seed Marcello Milani (SCRT) by a 6-2 decision.
Wrestling at 55 kg is incoming Tiger, Isaac Gibbs. Earning the 7-seed, Gibbs started with a 14-5 tech fall win over Anthony Alanis (KNRT). He picked up a 7-0 decision over Joshua Jasionowicz (PENN) in the quarterfinals.
In the semifinals, 3-seed William Jakeway (SOTW) picked up an 8-0 win. Davian Guanajuato (SIRT) won 8-0 in the consolation semis and 8-seed Isaac Stewart (MONT) held on in the fifth place match for a 14-9 decision over Gibbs.
