Women's Soccer hosted Briar Cliff to open GPAC play on Wednesday evening. Doane entered the contest not having a clean win against the Chargers since 2012 (Doane received four forfeit wins from 2013-16 due to eligibility violations). The Tigers struck early, and then often as they posted a 3-1 victory over Briar Cliff.
In the 3' of play, Mackenzy Gibson played a ball up the sideline and found Sarah Kennedy-Croft outracing the defense for the ball. Kennedy-Croft didn't have much space as she was near the end line but was able to sneak the ball past the goalkeeper on the near post for the first score.
The Tigers added to their lead in the 15' as Hayle Brodine sent a corner kick into the box and McKenna Rathbun connected on a header for the second goal of the game. Rathbun extended the Doane lead in the 26' by converting a penalty kick.
Briar Cliff picked up a late goal as Emily Moran scored in the 77' of action. For the game, it was the Chargers holding a significant shot advantage, 16-5. Virginia Johnson recorded six saves in goal for the Tigers.
Next up for the Tigers is a trip to Sioux City, Iowa, to take on Morningside. Start time on September 21 is set for 5:30 PM.
