Women's Tennis Tops Ottawa

Women's Tennis picked up a 5-2 win on Sunday in a neutral site victory over Ottawa (Kan.) in Red Oak, Iowa. 

Ottawa played two players short, giving the Tigers a win at No. 3 doubles as well as No. 5 and No. 6 singles. In doubles play, Doane swept the Braves to earn the team point. Maria Purizaca and Mariana Espinosa won 7-5 at No. 1 doubles. Liz Calderon and Grace Schroller won at No. 2, 6-4. Isabella Castillero and Kat Johnson won by forfeit at No. 3 doubles.

In singles play, Purizaca defeated Paula Persson, ranked No. 18 in the region, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 1. In the No. 2 singles match, Espinosa lost to Valeria Rodriguez, ranked No. 20 in the region, 6-4, 6-0. Calderon won at No. 3, 6-3, 6-1, while Castillero lost at No. 4 singles, 6-0, 6-2. Schroller and Johnson received forfeit wins at No. 5 and No. 6, respectively.

Doane will return to action on Saturday, March 1, when they host Avila (Mo.) in Crete. First serve for the spring home opener is set for 10 AM.
